Microsoft announced a new agreement that includes a set of privacy and safety standards related to the use of artificial intelligence tools in schools, amid growing concerns about student data and how it is used.
Associated Press said that the agreement, which was reached in cooperation with American Federation of Teachers, includes Microsoft's commitment not to use student and teacher data to train artificial intelligence systems or for advertising and product development purposes, with limited exceptions related to student protection.
The rules also include restrictions on the characteristics of intelligence Artificial systems designed to promote emotional attachment or dependence on systems, as well as impose audits and procedures to increase transparency with families and schools.
The standards are scheduled to come into effect in schools that have contracts with Microsoft as of the first of November, according to what the company announced.
