The European Commission announced a set of new measures that require Google to make some of its services and data available to competing companies in the fields of research and artificial intelligence.
The measures come within the framework of implementing the European Digital Markets Law (DMA), as the Commission said that Google It will have to make 11 Android functions available to competing AI assistants, allowing them to access some of the system capabilities currently used by Gemini Assistant.
Also under the measures, Google will share anonymous data that it uses to improve its search services with Companies like OpenAI and other AI services that include search functions, with privacy and security controls in place.
Some of these changes related to search data are scheduled to take effect in January, while competing AI services benefit from... New Android capabilities as of July 2027.
For its part, Google criticized the European measures, and said that some requirements may affect the protection of privacy and security on users' devices.
